You hear it all the time, “I Need A Catchy Name For My Photography Business” and they’re right. Most photographers either end up settling on insertlastname photography or some version thereof, and it makes it quite difficult to stand out of the crowd… let alone expect your clients to remember you .
Here are a few tips for coming up with a catchy name for your photography business:
1. Write down all of the things you enjoy shooting
- It only makes sense to come up with a name that explains what you do.. So start writing all of those things down.
2. Think Geographically
- Where do you live? where will you be working? do you have boundaries? Write all of those down as well. Then, write down descriptions of all of those things (i.e. valley, desert, etc)
3. Use a thesaurus
- Run what you have written down through a thesaurus and compile even more words that will describe your business and who you are.
4. Ask the Google
- I’ve even gone as far as to use the keyword tool on google and see what people are searching for. You want to make sure that your name is something that people want to hear! (https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal type in photography and your city and see what pops up)
5. Now that we have all of those things together, start mixing and matching and you’re bound to come up with a creative name that will describe what you do and have a nice ring to it. Congratulations you’re in business!

Great article. There’s a lot of good info here, though I did want to let you know something – I am running Redhat with the up-to-date beta of Firefox, and the design of your blog is kind of bizarre for me. I can read the articles, but the navigation doesn’t work so good.
Thanks Debbi,
I’ll have to look into that on my laptop. I’m running Redhat there as well.
Thanks for coming by! Hope to see you back.
Lots of good ideas in this article. It would seem to be a good idea to think about what image you want to create in a clients mind when they come across the name of your business. The suggestions that you offered are tangible steps to that goal!
Thanks!
