“Turn My Photography Hobby Into a Business”

I had a friend say those exact words to me yesterday.

I thought to myself, “I was there once”. I wanted to be a well paid, high-fashion photographer.. that was my goal.

Well, it’s been a long and bumpy road since then!

You see, I didn’t realize when I first began, that photography as a business is much more about business, than it is about skill.

A prime example of that is any number of postings that you see on craigslist where people show their portfolios and they are utter crap! You know what though? They’re getting paid…

So, without treading too much on this topic, what do you REALLY want:

A hobby that you enjoy expressing your artistic side?

Or

A business that you take photos in?

Because rest assured, if you pursue photography as a business, you will most certainly run into a conflict of interest and have to make some decisions eventually.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying that you can’t have a photography business that isn’t artistic. I’m simply saying that your artistic side will eventually start asking for “more” after your 332nd wedding…
